After years of experimenting in many different mediums, ranging from photography to watercolor, I finally decided to pursue my true passion, steel sculpture.  For me it ties together different aspects of my life:  my career in welding and steel fabrication, commercial fishing, and my love of the arts.

Sculpture intrigued me because the end result is a tangible three-dimensional piece of art.  Other mediums I explored could convey a sense of dimension but were truly, in the end, very one dimensional to me.  Sculpture easily allows me to combine different techniques of manipulating the metals such as forming and forging the steel, and also allows me to combine different materials together such as organic pieces, glass, bronze, brass and other metals.

Much of my inspiration comes from my lifelong fascination with Native American Art.  Growing up in the Pacific Northwest I have been surrounded with the Northwest Coast style of native arts.  I also spent many summers in Montana where I studied the local Plains styles.  In many of my pieces I try to fuse together aspects of native designs and the industrial, mechanical world that I am surrounded by everyday.  With my art I try to convey the idea of the Old World and the New World coming together.
